Tom Stephens

Tom R. Stephens, 70, a lifelong resident of Winona, MN, died peacefully at Benedictine - St. Anne on September 6, 2020.

He was born on July 29, 1950 to Robert and Margaret (Dolly) Stephens. Tom was a twin to Sara. Growing up they managed to get into a fair amount of mischief, and what one didn’t think of the other one did.

Tom had a generous heart, made friends easily, and loved to laugh and make others laugh. The nieces and nephews loved Tom, especially when they were little. He loved playing cards, and he played cards weekly with a group of ladies. He lived for hunting and fishing, duck and goose hunted with his buddy, Dave Holzer, and even was able to go to Canada hunting geese. He fished with his dad and others, and enjoyed making his own ice fishing jigs, and shared them with many. When fishing season was over, he headed to the woods looking for deer with his good friends, Mark and Mike Parma, and Mark’s family.

When Tom got older, he enjoyed flower gardening. He was so proud of his beautiful lilies and shared them with friends and family. Tom will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived by his sisters: Sharon (Dave) Martin, Tess (Dave) Holzer, Paula Stephens, and Sara (Ken) Fabian; nieces and nephews: Deanna Sobeck, Paul Martin, Stacy Rossin, Gary Pflughoeft, Karla Jelliffe, Lance Holzer, and Darin Fabian. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rachael Pflughoeft; and niece, Maelyn Fabian.

Honoring Tom’s wishes, a private family service will be held, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

We want to thank the staff of St. Anne’s, Hospice and Winona Health for the wonderful care Tom received.

The family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona.
