Obituary

Steven Jon Evans, 65, father, soul mate, husband, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 7, 2020, at Gundersen Health Systems, La Crosse, WI.

Steve was born on May 25, 1955, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Arthur and Dorothy Evans. For the first 5 years of his life, he lived on a farm in Luverne, MN. In 1960, Steve's father took a sales job with Watkins which moved the family to Sioux Falls, SD, Medford, MN, Faribault, MN, Milwaukee, WI, El Paso, IL, and St. Paul Park, MN, where he would graduate high school.

After graduation, he started his military service. He was enlisted in the Army from July 30, 1973 to May 23, 1977. During this time, he was stationed in Germany where he met his soul mate Jutta (Judy). On November 22, 1975 they were married. When Steve's service time was up, they returned to the United States. Upon returning to the US, they moved to Winona, MN, and then finally settling in Stockton, MN. They had 3 daughters together, Jessica, Jennifer, and Joni. Years later they divorced.

Steve remarried in 2006 to Mary Skappel, and they had 12 wonderful years together until her death in 2018.  After Steve's second wife Mary passed away, Steve and Judy rekindled their love, and were going to be remarried on November 22, 2020. Unfortunately, Judy passed away on October 13, 2020.

Steve was employed at Peterbilt, starting in 1981 and retiring in 2017.

Some of Steve's passions were rebuilding cars, wood working, watching sports and being outdoors. He was someone that could make something out of anything. Tinkering was a passion and he was very good at it. His current project was assisting with the remodel of the Winona Church of the Nazarene, which led him to form a bond with the Pastor.

Steve is survived by his children: Jessica (Jason) Palubicki, Jennifer (Justin) Kahn, Joni (Edward) Vorbeck; grandchildren: Dale, Sophi, Graci, Katelyn, Isaac, Conor, Oliver; and his loving cats, Gator and Joker. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary; soul mate Judy; brother, Dale and sister-in-law, Maxine. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, Duane and Randy, sister Julie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID 19, a private family service will be held to celebrate Steve’s life. Following the service, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors at the funeral home.
