Robert Holda

Robert Raymond Holda, age 96, of Winona, MN, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2021, at Sauer Healthcare.

He was born on July 10, 1925, in Chicago, IL, to James Holda and Elizabeth Heinz. He joined the US Marines and is a WWII veteran. He worked the majority of his career at Continental Can Company and was able to retire early in 1982.

Robert recently moved to Winona, MN, so he could be closer to his family. He enjoyed being an avid fisherman until he was unable to get out of the house as often. Mostly he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his granddaughter, whom he is very close to. Robert has always been generous by helping others throughout the years which is evident by those who have been willing to be there for him since he has gotten older.

On April 12, 1947, Robert married Virginia Theodore in Chicago. Their only daughter, Linda, was born on October 24, 1951, and only granddaughter, Holly, was born on November 16, 1982.

Robert is survived by his granddaughter, Holly Courtenay (Kayla Lundy); son-in-law, Mark Courtenay; many nieces and nephews; as well as others that he adopted as his additional grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his 4 siblings; his wife, Virginia Holda; daughter, Linda Courtenay; Tony Savaglio; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 East Sarnia Street, Winona, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors at 7 PM.

A committal service will be held at noon on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL.
