Lois Durham

Lois Ann Durham, age 86, of Winona, went to meet the Lord from her Watkins Manor apartment about 10:30 AM on Sunday, October 3, 2021.

Lois was born on June 3, 1935, to Sam and Bessie Callahan in Clover Bottom, Kentucky. On April 12, 1952 she married her lifelong husband, Clyde Edward Durham, in Richmond, Indiana.
Together they spent their life making a home and raising their 6 children.

Lois was proud to work side by side with her husband, Clyde, in the family business ventures. In Indiana, she was a member of the Pershing Elementary PTO, and also created and wrote a weekly column for the National Road Traveler. A devoted member of Immanuel Methodist Church in Winona, where she served as a representative. In her early youth, she traveled with her parents and their Country and Western Band and sang on the radio with them.

She had a special talent for creating a sense of wonder with her stories for her children, grandchildren, and friends, along with painting, drawing, writing, and other artistic interests. Though small in stature, she had a larger-than-life personality with a deep curiosity in all things that she experienced. Lois loved performing in amateur plays and musicals for the community along with often singing around her home, and she enjoyed many years of daily swimming and T’ai Chi classes. Family was one of her greatest treasures here upon this earth. She was the "integral center" for her family. She never met a stranger, and was full of life and laughter. Although she was a young mother that dropped out of High School to get married and have a child, she achieved her G.E.D. in mid-life.

Lois will remain in the hearts of her 6 children: Cherry Ann (Brian) Stuart, Vic Durham, Kirk (Marsha) Durham, and Brett (Laurie) Durham, Kitty (Jeff) Horstmann, Lois Ann; 19 grandchildren; along with numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Kaye Murray.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clyde of 43 years; sons: Vic and Kirk; a grandson, Mikey; an infant grandson, Benjamin Ricketts;  parents: Sam and Bessie; and three brothers: Ed, Carl, and Jack Callahan.

She will be cremated with an informal gathering to follow this coming Spring.
