Irene Curran

Irene R. Curran, age 97, of Winona, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, at Sauer Health Care.

She was born on August 21, 1922, in Winona, to Francis and Frances (Hildebrandt) Grupa.  She attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and was a graduate of Winona Senior High School.

Irene was united in marriage with Hugo Curran on May 14, 1947, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona.  They were married for 59 years, and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2004.

Irene was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.

Irene is survived by her children: Michael (Georgia) Curran, Frances (Steve) Gerlach, Tim (Kathy Klocek) Curran, Patricia (Scott) Stender, John (Melissa) Curran, and Theresa (John) Curran; grandchildren: Phillip, Maggie, and Katie Curran, and Natalie Curran Ressler; Andrew and Nicholas Gerlach; Samuel and Libby Stender; William Colclough; Rachel and Jack Curran; and Peter and Alex Curran; great-grandchildren: Nolan and Rees Curran; Gabe and Ben Ressler; Joe, Norah, and Mae Gerlach; and Isabella, Sofia, and Christopher Gerlach; son-in-law: Bill Colclough; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Curran; parents; and all of her siblings: Elizabeth Burke; and Christian, Ben, Lucian, Frank, and Leo Grupa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 PM on Monday, September 16, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.  The Reverend Michael Cronin will officiate.  Irene will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be held in the Commons of St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, September 16, 2019, from noon until the time of the Mass.
