Gene Collins

Gene George Collins, age 82, of Winona, passed away in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, while surrounded by his loving wife and neighbors.

He was born on March 18, 1937, in Winona, to George and Marie (Schimer) Collins.  Gene married Lois in 1981, in Winona, and they were happily married for 38 years.  They both lived in Winona their entire lives.

He worked for over 30 years for the Minnesota State Highway Department (MnDOT) in Winona County.

Gene was as a kind and gentle man who will be remembered for how he loved to get his car cleaned, going out for drives around town, and for his enjoyment of watching Westerns.

Gene is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Lois; one daughter, Cindy Collins; grandchildren: Zarna and Jeremy Polus; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a step-daughter, Julie Huwald; step-granddaughter, Amy Bernadot; and his special neighbors from the Brookview Association: Nancy, Jeanette, Carol, and Ann.

Lois will like to extend her sincere appreciation to the great staff at Winona Health Hospice for the loving care that they gave to Gene.

In honor of Gene’s wishes, there will not be any funeral services held.
