Virgil Laak

Virgil D. Laak, age 86, of Winona, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.

Virgil was born on February 25, 1932, in Winona, and married Joan Herrick on June 10, 1961, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona.

He honorably served his country with the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and was employed for over 50 years with Lake Center Industries.

He was a founding member of the Winona Gun Club, where he also served as its President, and he was a member of Trout Limited, where he served as its Treasurer.  He will be remembered for his enjoyment of fly fishing, and riding his bicycle and motorcycle.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Joan; children: Paula (Keith) Kulas, and Jeff Laak; grandchildren: Lee (Bria) Kulas, and Ryan Kulas; great-grandson, Nolan Kulas; brother-in-law: Robert (Marlene) Herrick; sister-in-law: Judy McMahon; and a special cousin, Holland Laak, who was like a brother to Virgil.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Laak.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.  The Reverend Robert P. Stamschror will officiate.  Virgil will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery in a family ceremony to be held in the spring.
