Violet E. Herold, age 102, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Sauer Health Care.
Violet was born on September 27, 1917, in the Town of Lincoln, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, to Fred and Clara (Beck) Balk, and was united in marriage with Wilfred M. Wilfred and Violet moved to St. Charles where they farmed with her parents for three years, then they continued farming until 1963, when Violet did housekeeping for many families in the area. Wilfred passed away on October 17, 1972.
Violet was a long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilson and its Ladies Aid. She will be remembered for her love of playing cards, especially 500 and Shafskopf. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she especially cherished the time that she spent with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter and son-in-law: Karen and William Long; daughter: Mary Ann Carlson; parents; brother and sister-in-law: Elroy and Violet Balk; and an infant sister.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM until 11 AM on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home’s new location at 376 East Sarnia Street in Winona.
A private family service will be held, with the Reverend Matthew Schoell officiating. Violet will be laid to rest at the Buffalo City Public Cemetery in Buffalo City, WI.
