Victor H. Gottschalk

Victor Herbert Gottschalk, age 89, of Winona, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025.

Victor was born on February 28, 1936, in Winona, where he spent nearly his entire life rooted in the community he loved. He dedicated the majority of his career to United Building Centers, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the easy friendliness he offered to coworkers and customers alike.

On July 26, 1958, Victor married the love of his life, Margaret (Tropple) Gottschalk. Together they built a life filled with devotion, hard work, and joy. Their union was blessed with six children: Laurie (Brett) Durham, Lynn (Dan) Wroblewski, Renea (Rick) Repinski, Karen Grossell, Larry (Susan) Gottschalk, and Christy (Chad) Ihrke.

Victor took immense pride in his growing family. He is lovingly remembered by his many grandchildren, Diana, Stephan, Sarah, Clayton, Ashley, Jeremy, Christopher, Jessica, Ryan, Michael, Ben, Heather, Amanda, Brice, Alexandra, Olivia, Cameron, Alex, and Becca, as well as numerous great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, Carl (Max) and Frieda Gottschalk; his sisters, Maxine and Leona; and his beloved grandbabies, Taylor and Lauren.

One of Victor’s most defining traits was his lifelong love of collectibles and especially his passion for railroads and trains. Whether admiring the craftsmanship of a model engine, sharing stories about historic railway lines, or adding to his treasured collections, Victor found joy, curiosity, and connection in the hobbies he cherished.

Our family would also like to extend a truly heartfelt “Thank You” to Amtrak for the countless hours of happiness that you brought to our dad.

Those who knew Victor will remember him for his quiet strength, his steadfast love for his family, his gentle humor, and the spark in his eye whenever trains were mentioned. His legacy lives on in the lives of the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who carry his spirit with them.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
