Thomas R. “Tom” Angst

Thomas "Tom" Robert Angst, age 77, died surrounded by family on October 12, 2026, after a difficult six-month battle with metastatic melanoma. Throughout his entire cancer fight, he never gave up, facing his illness with the same absolute determination, strength, and grace that defined his life.

Born in Winona, Minnesota, on May 14, 1949, Tom was an awesome, God-fearing husband, father, brother and grandfather. He touched so many lives as a devoted servant of God who always wanted to help others. A man of remarkable character and intellect, Tom completed his Master’s in Education and shared his love of learning as a substitute teacher. His strong work ethic was evident through his diverse career; he worked at EMD/Benchmark for over 20 years, spent time on the road as a truck driver, and dedicated his heart to helping others in a social work capacity at Legacies right here in Winona.

Throughout his life, Tom was remembered for his keen mind, his disciplined spirit, and his profound devotion to his faith. He was an avid runner who found joy and peace in jogging, a passionate fan of baseball, and a man who appreciated the quiet beauty of mathematics. Above all, his faith anchored him, and his greatest joy was always his family. He was always present to concerts, school masses, sports games, Eucharistic Adoration, helping administer the Eucharist to the homebound, attending bible study, and family events.

Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of St Mary’s Parish in Winona.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda, in October of 2023.

He is survived by his three daughters, Amy (Nick) Wobig, Beth(Jason) McQuinn, and Paula (Cameron)Hunter; his 11 grandchildren:Elissa, Emily, Joshua, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Eleanor and James Wobig;Connor, Kimber and Madison McQuinn; Alannah Hunter, his brother, Terrence Angst (79); and his sister, Sr. Judi Angst (83); as well as many other friends and relatives. He was a steady, guiding light in all of their lives, and his legacy of selfless service to God and love for his family and all the lives he touched will be remembered. He will be deeply missed.
