THEODORE J. "TED" SCHIMA

Ted Schima passed away on May 3, 2017. He lived at Watkins Manor for the past four years, and on St. Charles Street for many years prior. He was a lifelong resident of Winona, though he and his wife Doree made numerous summer trips by train to Oregon to visit with son Tony and daughter-in-law Jo.

Papa Ted celebrated his 100th birthday at a party in his honor last July. He looked forward to this opportunity to visit with friends, relatives, and fellow residents of Watkins Manor.

Ted spent most of his working career as a salesman, working independently as well as for local businesses such as Shopko, Target, and Sears. He was last employed by the City of Winona as a health and sanitation inspector. He was a sociable, patient man who enjoyed interacting with people.

Ted was a well-read man who enjoyed studying world religions, history, and archaeology. He was a regular patron of the library and he subscribed to many publications. He was mentally alert and enjoyed a keen memory all his life. Although not himself a regular church-goer, he had deep respect for the religious beliefs of others.

Ted is survived by his son Tony and daughter-in-law Jo of Lakeside, Oregon; by numerous nieces and nephews; and by special friend Lois Durham. He outlived his wife Doree and his sister Dorothy Kreuzer.

At his wish, no funeral or memorial services will be held.
