Susan M. “Sue” Gilow, age 62, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Gundersen Health System Hospital in La Crosse, following a long illness.
Sue was born on December 2, 1958, in Eau Claire, WI, to Thomas and Beverly (Crawford) Haney. She was a graduate of Cotter High School, where she was active in cheerleading, and later graduated from the Vo-Tech in Winona. Sue was united in marriage with Erich Gilow, Jr., on July 11, 1981, in Winona, having recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
She was employed for many years in the office at K-Mart in Winona, Fastenal, and finally with IOD at the Mayo Health System in La Crosse until her retirement.
Sue will be remembered for her love of the outdoors where she enjoyed camping, flower gardening, sun tanning, and going for long walks. She also enjoyed reading, playing board games and dominoes, traveling, and attending NASCAR and dirt track races. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she especially cherished the time that she spent with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Sue is lovingly survived by her husband, Erich; children: Michael (Alicia) Gilow and Nicole Gilow; grandchildren: Carter, Ava, Cooper, and April; mother: Beverly Haney; siblings: Sheryl (John) Ozmun, John (Barb) Haney, Dan (Jessica) Haney, Melissa Abbott, and Phillip Haney; sister-in-law: Linda Haney; brother-in-law: Elmer (Judy) Gilow; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Tom Haney; and in-laws: Wayne Gilow and Betty Erickson.
Visitation will be held from 2 PM until a service at 4 PM on Monday, September 6, 2021, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. Pastor Jason Threlkeld will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later date. For those attending, the family is respectfully requesting that masks be worn for the visitation and service.
