Sue Halling, age 78, of Winona, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Sue was born on April 3, 1948, to Alan and Lois Flake in Hopkins, Minnesota. Throughout her 78 years of life, she has been from Minnesota to Texas, to California, and back to the place she loved, Minnesota.
Sue met the love of her life, John Halling, 35 years ago. Together they created a wonderful life together, raising kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, dogs, cats, chickens, and cows. All the wildlife around their home were lucky to stumble upon their property because they always made sure they had plenty of bird seed, nectar, and fresh garden veggies available at all times.
Sue was a long-time employee at TRW in Winona, where she eventually retired, and enjoyed many hobbies and activities. She was a member of the Winona Clown Club for many years and enjoyed travelling around the area to participate in many parades and events. Sue loved gardening with John; year after year they grew a huge garden in which she froze and canned many vegetables. She loved spending time with everyone in the family, and always had fun activities planned for the holidays. She will be missed greatly at future holiday get-togethers.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Alan and Lois Flake; sister, Nancy Moe; and grandson, Dominik Halling. She is survived by her husband, John; brother, John (Virginia) Ness; daughter, April (Don) Morrison, Whitewright, TX; son, Bill Halling; daughter, Peggy (Barry) Coleman, Winona; son, John (Agnes) Halling, Germany; daughter, Tammy (Scott) Eglund, Onalaska, WI; and daughter, Molly (Randy) Hauser, Rock Springs, WY; her grandchildren include: Randi (Jordan) Gonzales, Aubrey (Caylee) Bradshaw, Tracy (Reagan) Morrison, Travis (Alissa) Morrison, Ethan Coleman and life partner Emily Girard, Joseph Halling, Bryant Coleman, Mike (Shannon) Halling, Breanna (Nick) Calko, Michaela (Tyler) Stabell, Holden Coleman and Izzy Gonzalez, Nicholas Polodna, Madeline Polodona, and Eva Hauser; her great-grandchildren include: Phoebe Bradshaw, Violet Coleman, Rhoades Coleman, Cecelia Calko, Zachary Halling, and Arlo Coleman.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from noon until 2 PM.
