Shirley M. Kamrowski, age 90, of Winona, peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Born on May 27, 1935, in Winona to Carl and Leona (Papenfuss) Barum, Shirley was a graduate of Winona High School. She married Joseph G. Kamrowski on June 11, 1955, at St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona, and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2024.
Throughout her life, Shirley dedicated herself to caring for others. She worked as a nurse aide and also provided private home health care. Her spirit of giving extended into her community service, volunteering with hospice care and generously donating 19 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Shirley was also a member of a 500 card club for over 50 years and enjoyed social gatherings with friends, often meeting for coffee at Hy-Vee. Fondly known as the “cookie lady,” she delighted many with her homemade treats. Shirley was a life-long member of St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona.
Shirley is lovingly survived by her children: Perry (Anita) Kamrowski, Keith (Sherry) Kamrowski, and Tammy Stiever; grandchildren: Alyse (Vinny) Howard, Christian Kamrowski, and Nina (Gene) Herrera; great-grandchildren: Sophia and Delilah Herrera; brother, Cork (Andrea) Barum; sister, Donna Ernst; sister-in-law, Barb Barum; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Joe; parents, Carl and Leona; son-in-law, Bill Stiever; brothers: Alan, Gary, David, and infant brother Robert Barum; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Duane Bradt; brother-in-law, Alan Ernst; and nephews: Steve Ernst and Carl Barum.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, May 4, 2026, at St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona. The Reverend Richard A. Moore will officiate.
Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston, MN.
Visitation will take place at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 1 PM to 5 PM, where a devotional service will be held at 4:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at St. Martin's Ev. Lutheran Church on Monday, May 4, 2026, from noon until the time of the service.
Pallbearers will be: Christian Kamrowski, Alyse Howard, Gene Herrera, Vinny Howard, Mike Mohr, and Brian Ernst.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church or Winona Health Hospice. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Winona Health Hospice, especially Lauren Brackin, for their compassionate care, and to special friends and neighbors Jim and Pat Welch.
