Sandra J. Johnson

Sandra Jean Johnson (nee Newell) passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

She is survived by sons and their families: Matthew M. Johnson (Sarah Roth and Dorian Strelow) of Minneapolis, MN; Noah D. Johnson (Ashley Stoddard and Xavier Stoddard) of Winona, MN; Ken’s children (Cheryl Knower, Christina Ehlenfeldt-Britton, Paul Messina); two siblings: Roger Newell (Dana Roland, Devon and Dougray), Tom and Pam Newell, and her beloved cat, Abby. She was preceded in death by parents Charles and Shirley Ann Newell, and ex-husband, Kenneth J. Johnson.

Born December 16, 1955, in Winona, Sandy graduated from Winona Senior High in 1974 before going on to work at Brach’s Candy, making her way up to 2nd Shift Supervisor over 25 years of dedication and service. After retirement, Sandy proudly obtained her accounting degree from MSC-ST-Winona.

She loved grilling, kitties, playing card games. The last six months of her life, Sandy was proudly very active with small group training at Anytime Fitness.

She enjoyed traveling with her closest friends and cousin Carol Rogge across the Midwest and Mexico and looked forward to her annual “cousin trips” to the Southeastern US and most recently, to Colorado.

She lived her life with a great sense of empathy and compassion which she instilled in her two boys.

A celebration of life will be held this coming summer at a date to be determined.
