Ruth Dennis

Ruth Arlene Dennis, age 89, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020, at Lake Winona Manor.

Ruth was born in Winona on Easter Sunday, April 25, 1931, to August and Emma (Nast) Schrandt, and was the last surviving of 10 children.

She attended Winona High School, and married Edward Glenn Dennis in 1954 – together, they had three children: Joel, Kathy, and Edward.  Ruth lost her husband in January 1967.

Ruth was employed at Lake Center Industries, Schuler Chocolates, and Peerless Chain Company, retiring in 1994.  A few years later, she decided to go to work for Winona State University in the cafeteria.  She met so many friends which she had for life and loved talking with the students at WSU.  Ruth was a member of the Eagles Club in Winona, and of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.

Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren Blake, Lindsey, and Megan.  They were such a big part of her life – they loved her so much and will miss her deeply.

She loved playing BINGO and going up to Treasure Island on the bus with her friends Rene, Doreen, and others.  Ruth also enjoyed fishing, shopping, planting flowers, going for car rides, and watching golf, football and the Hallmark Channel on TV.

Ruth will be missed deeply by all the hearts that she has touched throughout her life – especially her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.  She will be able to spend her first Christmas in 53 years with her husband, Edward.  She was kind, loving, and thoughtful – she would do anything to help you out.

Ruth is survived by her children: Joel Dennis, Kathy (Rod) Holzworth, and Edward (Rosario) Dennis; grandchildren: Blake Dennis, Lindsey (Alyssa) Holzworth, and Megan Holzworth; great-grandchildren: Lucia Ruth Holzworth, Iain Paul Holzworth; sisters-in-law: Betty Dennis and Carol Dennis; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, August and Emma Schrandt; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ellsworth Sr. and Genevieve Dennis; siblings and their spouses: Lovelett (John) Richnofsky, Elaine (John) Cerny, Lambert Schrandt, Earl (Joyce) Schrandt, Jean (Billy) Strain, Arnold (Avis) Schrandt, Robert (Gert) Schrandt, Betty (Bill) Fritz, and Donna (Vernon) Koetz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Robert (Hope) Dennis, Ellsworth Jr. (Cecelia) Dennis, Richard Dennis, Charles Dennis, and Joyce (Edward) Przybylski.

To my children, grandchildren, and friends…When my time comes, don’t weep for me, as I’ll be with my God who created me, and see the face of Jesus who died for me.  This I do believe.  So, like a hummingbird that flutters in just one place, this also shall be my final resting place.  So, to everyone when your time comes, there will be tears of great joy as we meet in God’s Kingdom above.  My eternal love…(mother, grandmother) Ruth.

A family service and burial is being planned for a later date.  Ruth will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
