Richard (Dick) Walter Burmeister, age 94, of Winona, died on October 18, 2025.

He was born in Winona, Minnesota to Fred E. and Leona I. (nee Stuhr) Burmeister on January 4, 1931. Dick was baptized into the Christian faith on February 1, 1931, and confirmed on Palm Sunday, 1944, at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He attended St. Martin’s Lutheran School and Winona Senior High School, graduating in 1948.

Dick worked in the circulation department of the Winona Republican Herald until he enrolled at Winona State Teachers’ College in 1950. Upon graduation from college, he volunteered for the draft and served two years in the U.S. Army until 1956. Then he worked as a mechanical draftsman and designer with Badger Construction Equipment for over 25 years and with DCM Tech for 15 years. He retired in 2000.

Richard was united in marriage with Doris N. Pankow on September 26, 1959, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie, Wisconsin. They had five sons who were raised in the family home in Goodview, Minnesota. Doris died June 14, 2006. Dick married Arleen M. Werre on July 3, 2008, at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pickwick, Minnesota.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph, and his first wife. He is survived by his wife, Arleen, his five sons (Paul, Andrew, Joel, Nathan, and Aaron), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In his last days he received compassionate care from Winona Health Hospice and Sauer Health Care.

Visitation will be held at St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fountain City, WI, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 9 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM. Pastor Douglas Westenberg will officiate.

His ashes will be placed in the columbarium in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, where they will await their reconstitution into a glorious new body, when his Savior, Jesus Christ, returns on the last day.

Memorials may be directed to St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fountain City, Wisconsin, and/or to Luther High School, Onalaska, Wisconsin.
