Randy D. Evenson, age 65, of Winona, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, in the comfort of his home in the arms of his wife, Alice, and surrounded by his loving family – his daughter, Shannon, sister Patti, and son-in-law, Travis.
Randy was born on October 11, 1955, in Winona, to Elmer and Jean (Cummings) Evenson. He received his GED and attended Southeast Technical College in Winona. Randy had several jobs, mostly in carpentry, his favorite job was at Badger Equipment, and his final job was at TRW. He had to retire early due to severe back and leg pain he got from a construction job. He suffered for many years in pain.
He married Alice Bublitz on April 28, 1977, and they were married for 44 years. Together they had two children, Chad and Shannon.
Randy liked hunting and fishing, and having a few beers with his friends. He also enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings and NASCAR. On Saturdays, he loved to watch all of the Westerns, especially “Gunsmoke.” Most of all, he loved being on the river on his pontoon boat and taking his kids and grandchildren to his very good friend’s cabin. He also loved camping with his daughter, son-in-law Travis, and his grandson (his little buddy, Jace), at their camper at Money Creek, and this is where he met the Nation family – and there is a lot of them! He especially liked Travis’ aunt, Jill.
He will be deeply missed by all of his drinking buddies, who shared good memories, and loved playing tricks on each other.
Randy is survived by his wife, Alice, and his daughter, Shannon (Travis Nation). He loved all of his grandchildren: Journey Walters, Allison Walters, Sebastian Evenson, Jace Nation, and Trinity. His sisters are: Carole Price, Norfolk, VA; Patti Jonsgaard, Lewiston, MN; and he has a half-brother: Marvin Haedtke, Jr., Winona.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chad; his parents; brother: Roger Evenson, Wichita, KS; his favorite grandpa, Sumner Cummings (Grandpa C); other grandparents; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
A gathering to celebrate Randy’s life will be held from 1 PM until 3 PM on Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 East Sarnia Street. Food and refreshments will be served at Randy’s home following the gathering.
You are free of all pain now, and are with your loving son, Chad. An angel came and took you, but you will always be in our hearts. Be at peace now, going fishing with Chad on the river.
