Phyllis Lanz

Phyllis E. Lanz, age 89, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Sauer Healthcare.

Phyllis was born on November 10, 1928, in Bethany, MN, to John and Lydia (Miller) Schafer.  On March 1, 1949, Phyllis was united in marriage with Raymond H. Lanz of Wyattville, MN.

She was employed with the National Tea Grocery Store in Winona, and for over 19 years, she was a teller at Winona National Bank, retiring in 1991.  She was a member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Phyllis will be remembered as an avid sewer, and she enjoyed making quilts, afghans, and embroidered dish towels to share with others.  She was an excellent cook and baker, who loved to make big meals for her family and friends.  Phyllis was a long-time fan of Johnny Cash, and his music brought her comfort during her last days.

Phyllis is lovingly survived by her husband of 69 years, Raymond Lanz, Winona; sons: Dennis (Mary) Lanz, Phoenix, AZ; and Daryl Lanz, Winona; sister, La Vonne Jahnke, Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law: Delores Schafer, Winona; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son: Dean Lanz; brothers: Bill, Norman and Alvin Schafer; and a sister, Adeline Murphy.

In honor of Phyllis’ wishes, private family services will be held.
