Norman G. Kostuck, Sr., age 82, of Winona, passed away in his home and went to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven on Monday, May 7, 2019.
Norman was born on November 1, 1936, in Winona, to Francis “Frank” and Frances (Pawlak) Kostuck. He was a graduate of Winona Senior High School. Norman was a Vietnam War veteran who honorably served his country with distinguished service in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Norman will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, and he especially enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, deer and small game hunting, and trapping. He found comfort and peace being in the outdoors. He took great pride in his immaculate, productive garden and fruit trees, and his lawn. He also loved a good game of chess, and as an avid reader, he took great interest in trees, arboriculture and other plants, and he had a vast knowledge of holistic health and medicine. He especially liked Purple Martins and even built houses for them to nest on his property so he could watch them glide overhead. Even though he was a hunter, in his later years, he enjoyed sitting in his back yard to watch God’s creatures---rabbits, squirrels, birds---scurry and flit about. Norman also wrote poetry and informative history and home remedy articles in his spare time, many of which were published in the newspaper throughout the years. Norman also made many contributions to animal shelters and various other charities throughout his life. He was a man of much knowledge who shared what he knew to benefit others. He will be missed very much. Norman was a member of the Winona Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Norman is lovingly survived by his children: Charles Kostuck, Norman (Deborah) Kostuck Jr., Tanya (Jon) Pfeifer, and Justin Dionysius; his grandchildren Nikole, Jessica, Jacqueline, Derek, Tara, Ryan, and Alicia; his great-grandchildren Lily, Emmalynn, Connor, Nolan, Ben, Jayden, Simon, Ava, Eleanor, Baby (due May), Baby (Due November); brother: Joseph Kostuch; his former wife, Helga Kuehn; as well as nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters: Gertrude, Harold, Richard, Lorraine, Edward, John, and James.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the funeral service at 1:00 pm on May 19, 2019, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Beavers will officiate. Following the service, military honors will be provided by the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
