Michael L. "Mike" Slaggie

Michael Leonard “Mike” Slaggie, age 87, of Winona, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

Mike was born on February 6, 1938, in Winona, to Leonard and Jessie Slaggie, and was a graduate of Cotter High School and St. Mary’s College of Minnesota. He honorably served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1956 through 1964.

He was a lifetime member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the Winona Elks Club, and the Winona Family YMCA.

During his life, he was an insurance claims manager working in Minneapolis, Rochester, and Albert Lea in Minnesota, and in Milbank, South Dakota, retiring in 1988.

He had a great love for the Mississippi River and its backwaters, and he especially enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and hiking. In later years, he spent much time with his friends at the Winona Public Library.

Mike is survived by his brothers: Thomas (Kathy) Slaggie and Stephen (Barbara) Slaggie; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, there will be a private family burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona at a later date.
