Michael E. Rompa

Michael E. “Mike” Rompa, age 88, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona, following a brief stay during his long illness.

Mike was born in February 1937 in Winona, to John and Theophila (Drwall) Rompa. He attended Winona High School and graduated from Cotter High School in 1954. Mike made friends wherever he went and attended class reunions for both schools.

He enjoyed playing hockey for the Winona Hornets amateur team.

Mike proudly served his country with the United States Army in Korea as a medic. Upon returning to Winona, he married Anne Loesch in 1960, and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

He was employed in various positions at NSP (Xcel Energy) for 36 years. In his retirement, Mike worked part-time at Motor Parts and Equipment, hunted, fished, cut wood so he could build roaring fires, travelled, and, most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

He was a long-time member of St. Casimir’s Parish in Winona.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: John, Grace (Roger Brown), Rita, and Raymond; and nephews, Stephen and Anthony.

Mike is lovingly survived by his wife, Anne; children: Jennifer (Kelly) and Michael (Martina); grandchildren: Paige (Keith), Matthew, and Nicholas (Lily); step-grandchildren: Mary and James; sister, Janet; sister-in-law: Joanne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 10 AM until the service at 11 AM. Fr. Russell Scepaniak will officiate. A private interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials being directed to Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona, or to a charity of choice.
