Michael Nguyen

Michael Van Nguyen, age 40, of Winona, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at his home.

He was born on June 4, 1981, in Wabasha, MN, to Lun Van “Mike” and Kathleen (Dienger) Nguyen.  Mike attended W-K Elementary School, Winona Middle School, and graduated from Winona Senior High School.  Following high school, he earned his degree in Business Management from Southeast Technical College in Winona.  He later moved to the Twin Cities, where he lived until moving back to Winona in 2014.

Mike married Amanda Sibell on March 15, 2008, and together they had a son, Collin, and they later divorced.

Mike had several part-time jobs throughout his life including working in the fruit and vegetable business in the Twin Cities and Winona, but his passion was managing the family business, The Handy Corner, for his parents.

While in high school, Mike was involved with the Student Senate, and was also an accomplished hockey player.  He loved skateboarding, watching the Minnesota Wild, the Vikings, and golf had a special place in his heart which he not only enjoyed watching, but he formed many friendships while playing with his buddies Kenny, Moon, Wynn, and Shaun.

Mike’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his children, and he will be deeply missed by all those who loved him, including his coworkers and patrons at the Handy Corner.

Mike is lovingly survived by his children, Julee Joswick-Nguyen and Collin Nguyen; parents: Lun (Mike) and Kathy Nguyen; brother: Matthew Nguyen; step-sister: Sarah Sullivan; special friend, Sue Gora; aunts and uncles: Gary and Lila Dienger, and Steve and Mary Dienger; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents; uncle, Dale; and his aunts: Ut and Sach.

Visitation will be held from 4 PM until a time of remembrance at 6 PM on Friday, October 8, 2021, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 East Sarnia Street in Winona, with a celebration of life following at the Winona American Legion Club.
