Michael G. Bauer

Michael G. Bauer, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, his 62nd birthday, at Gundersen Health Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.

Born on October 5, 1963, in La Crosse, Mike was the son of Gary and Nancy (Hock) Bauer and attended local schools. Throughout his career, he faithfully delivered the Winona Daily News in Buffalo County, Wis., for over 21 years. In addition, he took pride in his culinary skills, working as a cook in various restaurants, and was especially proud of owning and operating the Great River Café in Fountain City.

Mike had a profound love for the outdoors, finding joy in activities such as fishing, hunting, trapping, and hiking around Duluth. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, particularly his cherished grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Sheldon (Alicia), Nina, and Eric; his mother, Nancy; his brother, Dave (Joni), and his sister, Deb (John); along with numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, located 376 East Sarnia Street, Winona, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring his memory.
