Mark F. Zimmerman

Mark F. Zimmerman, age 89, of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Mayo Health System Hospital in La Crosse, WI.

He was born on June 1, 1934, in Winona, to John and Gertrude (Renk) Zimmerman, and attended Winona County schools and Cotter High School.  Mark was united in marriage with Grace Rogalla on July 2, 1955, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona, by Bishop Edward Fitzgerald.

Mark owned and operated several businesses in Winona, but as a country boy at heart, he loved spending time on the farm, enjoying the animals, and even riding a horse at age 80.  He honorably served with the National Guard for many years.

Mark was an original member of the Winona County Planning Commission and the DAC Board, the Home and Community Options Board of Directors, Rock Solid, the Lion’s Den Boxing Club, and he served on the Winona County Soil and Water Conservation Board.  He was also a member of the Southeastern Minnesota Board of Realtors and the MLS Service.  Mark was a long-time member of St. John Nepomucene Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, and was a past member of the Parish Council. 

Mark is lovingly survived by his wife, Grace; children: Mary (Steve) Newkirk, Mesa, AZ; Geri Corey, Winona; Pat (Wayne) Albrecht, Galesville, WI; John (Aida) Zimmerman, Winona; Dave Zimmerman, Winona ; Joe Zimmerman, Wasilla, AK; and Judy (Greg) Denzer, Winona; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Mary Zimmerman and Carol Becker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law: Marge and Stanley Rogalla; son-in-law: Ron Corey; sister: Marian Zimmerman; brother: James Zimmerman; sister-in-law: Jane McKenzie; and brothers-in-law: Robert Becker and O.G. “Mac” McKenzie.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona.  Deacon Justin Green will officiate.

Mark will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: John Zimmerman, David Zimmerman, Joe Zimmerman, Jeremy Corey, Cole Harris, and Arron Zimmerman.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Home and Community Options, or to St. John Nepomucene Church.
