Marion E. Brandes, age 86, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 13, 1938, in Waumandee Township, Buffalo County, WI, to Wilfred and Emma (Rotering) Hundt, and was a graduate of Cotter High School. Following high school, Marion completed training as an LPN with the School of Practical Nursing at the Winona General Hospital, and worked as a nurse receptionist for Dr. John Tweedy for many years. She was later employed as a receptionist with RTP in Winona until her retirement.
Marion was united in marriage with Robert Brandes on August 5, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 2013.
She will be remembered as a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed working in her yard. She especially cherished the time she spent with her family, and when her children were born, Marion took a break from working for Dr. Tweedy to be a stay-at-home mom and also provided daycare for her nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Marion is lovingly survived by her children: Robert Scott Brandes and Jennifer Brandes; sisters: Rita Bublitz and Rosemary Franzen; sisters-in-law: Marguerite Hundt and Mary Hundt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; twin brother, Marvin Hundt; brother, Donald Hundt; sister, Donna King; and brothers-in-law: James King and Richard Franzen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. The Very Reverend Mark C. McNea will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Monday, May 26, 2025, from 4 PM until 7 PM, where Fr. McNea will lead the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 9 AM until the time of the Mass.
Marion will be laid to rest at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Hundt, Thomas Hundt, Todd Hundt, Mark Borck, Jim Jelinski, and Tim Flanagan.
Marion’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Winona Health Hospice, and especially to Jodie, Stephanie, Jenny, Michelle, Jean, and Dirk, for the excellent and loving care they gave to her and to her family.
