Marian P. Burns

Marian P. (Kerrigan) Burns, age 85, of Winona, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Emplify Health Hospital in Wabasha, MN.

She was born on August 10, 1940, in La Crosse, WI, to Frank and Ellen (Flanigan) Kerrigan, and was a graduate of Cotter High School and the Winona Secretarial School. Marian was united in marriage with William F. Burns on November 26, 1960, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ridgeway.

Marian was employed with the Winona Library, Winona Health, and also worked for 18 years at Watkins in Winona until her retirement. Her greatest joy in life was her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was proud of raising her large family, and that she was able to work at Madison School while her children attended there.

She will be remembered for her enjoyment of reading, solving crossword puzzles, watching Christmas movies, raising flowers and gardening.

Marian had a deep devotion to her faith and was a long-time parishioner of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.

Marian is lovingly survived by her husband, William; children: Rena (Dennis) Burns-Hunt, Rosanne (Doug) Konken, Randal (Kathy) Burns, Robert (Brenda) Burns, Roger (Dawn) Burns, and Ricki (Tricia) Burns; grandchildren: Josh, Zach, Nick, Katie, Dustin, Ty, Andrew, Ben, Christopher, Alyssa, Mya, and Addison; 10 great-grandchildren; brother: Gregory Kerrigan; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Fr. Bernard Kerrigan, Leo Kerrigan, Rita Husman, John Kerrigan, Dennis Kerrigan, Eugene Kerrigan, Kathleen Burdick, and Jim Kerrigan.

Visitation will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston, MN, on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 4 PM until 7 PM, where a closing prayer service will be held at 6:45 PM. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Fr. Chinnappa Pothireddy will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marian’s grandsons.

The family respectfully asks that memorials be directed to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester.
