MARCELLA T. "MARCIE" LANGOWSKI

Marcella T. “Marcie” Langowski, age 101, of Winona, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Lake Winona Manor.

She was born on May 15, 1916, in Winona, to Vincent and Josepha (Kukowska) Modrzejewski. Marcie was united in marriage with Stanley M. “Jiggers” Langowski on August 29, 1933, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona, and he preceded her in death on April 13, 1981.

Together with her husband, Marcie owned and operated the Langowski Sugar Loaf View Farm with enthusiasm, pride and joy.  Marcie was a lifelong member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka, where she served as a Parish Council president, and president of the PTA.  Marcie and Jiggers contributed many hours to their Church.  At Bazaar time they built and operated booths, helped with the Big Ticket, and took charge of the Bazaar Dinner for a number of years.  They also hosted the Church Picnic for two summers.  Marcie was also a past president of the Cotter Mothers and a past president of the Athletic Club Auxiliary.

Marcie and Jiggers made the farm and their home a refuge for Displaced Polish families in the late 1940's and early 1950's.  They opened their home to troubled youths, flood victims, friends and relatives who needed a place to work or a place to call home.  She was an excellent cook who would never turn anyone away and her family knew that they could always count on her for anything.

Marcie will be remembered for her love of bowling, gambling, golfing, and playing cards - especially Shafskopf and Poker. Together with her companion, George Mello, Marcie enjoyed wintering in Gulfport, MS.

Marcie is lovingly survived by her children: Stanley (Myrna) Langowski, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Patricia (Richard) Stahmann, Winona; Carol (Robert) Heineman, Holcombe, WI; and Geraldine (Gordon) Hughes, Missoula, MT; grandchildren: Debra Schewe, Stanley III & Paul Langowski; Lynne Kendrick; Kim Johnson; Michael, Thomas & David Langowski; Jacqueline Lafky; Linda Fletcher; Richard Stahmann Jr.; Terry Jacquart; Chris Murphy; James & Lucas Heineman; Tammy Hughes; Teresa Finnegan; and Gordon Hughes III; 33 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-great-grandchildren, 1 sister: Gertrude Gabrych; one special "daughter" Diane Mello, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; children: Jacqueline and Ronald Langowski; two infant sons; companion, George Mello; 4 sisters: Dorothy Ahearn, Sylvia Konkel, Josephine Young, and Mildred Ferguson; and 5 brothers: Alfred Modrzejewski, Mark Modjeski, James Modjeski, Edmund Modrzejewski, and Vincent Modrzejewski.

The Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at 4 PM on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, with visitation following the Rosary until 7 PM.  Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Saturday, July 1, 2017, from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM.  The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery following the Church Service.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Stan III, Paul, Michael and David Langowski, Lucas Heinemann, and grandson by marriage, Michael Lafky.

It is respectfully requested that memorials be directed to the Polish Museum or the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.
