Luz "Lucy" I. Renk

Luz “Lucy” Irene Arenas Renk, age 78, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on July 28, 2025, in the arms of her beloved husband.

Lucy was born on February 24, 1947, in Medellín, Colombia. In her early twenties, she bravely left her homeland to join her sister Martha in Minnesota. It was in Stockton, Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Martin Renk. They married on July 24, 1971, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Brighton, Minnesota. They shared over five decades of unwavering love and partnership. Their relationship stood as a shining example of devotion, resilience, and enduring affection.

After their marriage, Lucy and Martin lived in the Twin Cities area before settling in the Winona region to raise their family. In 1999, they purchased their dream home on an acreage near Rollingstone. Over the years, they lovingly transformed their single-story home into a beautiful “castle” — a place filled with warmth, charm, and Lucy’s signature touch. Each holiday season, friends and family looked forward to the towering, magnificently decorated Christmas tree that graced their living room — a stunning symbol of Lucy’s joy and creativity.

Lucy had an unmatched eye for style and took great pleasure in fashion, often finding treasures during shopping trips to her favorite stores, especially in Rochester — TJ Maxx being a favorite. Her children fondly remember the many hours spent shopping with her — it was truly her happy place.

Being a devout and practicing catholic, family was always the heart of Lucy’s life. She delighted in planning beautiful gatherings for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and summer celebrations — including a few legendary hog roasts — where everyone felt welcomed and cherished. Her generous spirit and warm hospitality made every guest feel special.

Lucy brought that same love and energy to her professional life. For 15 years, she worked at Calista Court in Winona, where she was known for her compassion, impeccable style, and tireless dedication. Her presence lit up the room, and her care for residents was deeply felt. She often outpaced coworkers half her age, and her kindness touched everyone she encountered.

Lucy is survived by her devoted husband, Martin; sons, Wyatt (Tricia) and David; daughter, Bridget; grandchildren, Amirul, Nadirul, Sienna, and Jace; sisters, Dolly Rodriguez, Maria Jaramillo, Marta Rollins, Yolanda Patino, and brother Leon (Lisa) Arenas; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Hundt and Mary Renk; brother-in-law, Edward (Kerry) Renk; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ana and Balvino Arenas, and her infant daughter, Holly.

Lucy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her warmth, strength, and grace will remain a lasting legacy.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Friday, August 15, 2025, from noon until a Prayer Service at 1:30 PM. Deacon Bill Keiper will officiate.
