Leo F. Lubinsky, age 86, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
He was born on November 11, 1932, to Clarence “Todd” and Martha (Pape) Lubinsky, and was united in marriage with Joyce Osmun on September 25, 1971, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. He was employed as a radiology technician with Winona Health for 40 years, prior to his retirement.
Leo was an active member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona, where he participated in Eucharistic Adoration and as an Eucharistic Minister, sang with the choir, helped with the Fall Festival, took communion to the homebound, and he served on various committees. He was a member of the Third and Fourth Degrees of the Knights of Columbus, and served as their Recording Secretary for many years. He also participated in the local marches and prayer chains for Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, delivered Meals on Wheels, and volunteered for RSVP with Catholic Charities.
He was a great animal lover, especially his many dogs and cats, and he also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds around his home. Leo and Joyce traveled extensively throughout the United States, and they had an especially memorable trip to Rome where they sang with the Diocesan Choir for the Pope. Leo was a kind and generous man who never knew a stranger – whenever he met someone, he could never just say, “Hi,” but he always enjoyed visiting and having a good conversation. He will be deeply missed.
Leo is lovingly survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter: Valerie (Matthew) Bakke; grandchildren: Eland and Nora Bakke; brothers-in-law: Bert Dobson and Jim (Rhoda) Dobson; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Dorothy Mohr.
Visitation will be held from 2 PM until 4 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, where the Knights of Columbus will lead the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary at 3:30 PM. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. The Very Reverend Mark C. McNea will officiate. Leo will be laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mondovi, WI.
Memorials would be appreciated to the Winona Area Humane Society, or to a charity of choice.
