LAVERN J. "SONNY" OEVERING
Lavern J. “Sonny” Oevering, age 82, of Houston, MN, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017.
He was born on May 20, 1934, in Winona, to John G. and Elsie A. (Groth) Oevering.
Lavern was employed with Behrens Manufacturing for over 40 years, and also farmed with his brother Roger in Pleasant Hill Township in Winona County. He honorably served his country with the United States Army, and was a member of Cedar Valley Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Benedett; nephew, Randy (Cindy) Moga; niece: Dawn (Jim) Buege; daughter, Debbie Rain; his beloved dog, Dodo; and cat, Winter; grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Patti (Lyle) Babler, Keith (Cindi) Benedett, and Raymond (Linda) Pampuch, as well as other relatives and friends. Lavern enjoyed going to auctions and tractor pulls with his best friends, Nancy and the Butler twins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Esther Moga and Bertha Pampuch; a brother, Roger Oevering; and a nephew, Jimmy Moga.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Sunday, February 5, 2017, from 1 PM until the time of a funeral service at 3 PM. The Reverend Jeff Franko will officiate.
Lavern will be laid to rest in Bush Cemetery, Ridgeway, in a private family ceremony. The American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Travis Buege, Marcus Ziemer, Tim Ronnenberg, Andy Fisch, Arlan Henderson, and Randy Butler.
