Laurie Rae Moore, age 67, of Winona, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, following a four-year battle with cancer.
She was born on September 5, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Raymond and Emily (Kammerer) Aexel. Laurie was united in marriage with her best friend and love of her life, Richard A. Moore, on September 7, 1979, at Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville, NY.
Laurie received her bachelor’s degree in social work from Concordia University-Bronxville, and throughout her career, held various positions as a social worker at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Bethesda Homes, and IRI Research, all in St. Louis, MO.
While her husband was serving as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Chapel in St. Louis, Laurie was active there with the LWML and was Chair of the Day Care Committee. Laurie was currently a member of St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona where Richard serves as Senior Pastor.
She will be remembered for her enjoyment of doing counted cross-stitch and hardanger needlework. Laurie’s greatest joy in life was her family – she was a dedicated mom who loved attending her daughters’ volleyball games and ballets, and she cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her the most.
Laurie is lovingly survived by her husband, Rev. Richard A. Moore; children: Rachael (Steve) Nehring and Johanna (Allen) Hines; grandchildren: Oliver, Dorothy, and Henry Nehring; and Rose, McKenna, Louie, and Jesse Hines; mother-in-law: Norma Moore; sister-in-law: Ruby (Richard Tuscano) Moore; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Emily; father-in-law: Jesse Moore; and a brother-in-law: David Moore.
Visitation will be held at St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4 PM until 7 PM, where a devotion will be held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 9 AM until the funeral service at 10 AM. Burial will be in the Pickwick Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the St. Martin’s Board of Elders. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Nehring, Allen Hines, Richard Tuscano, Rocky Sandcork, and Mike Denzer.
In lieu of flowers, it is respectfully requested that memorials be directed to the “Continuing the Mission” Building Fund of St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
Laurie’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Infusion Clinic and Hospice services of the Gundersen Health System for the excellent care that she received.
