Keary Glenna

Keary Gilman Glenna, age 68, of Winona, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Saturday, February 5, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 24, 1953, in Winona, to Gilman and Irene (Bruss) Glenna, and was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona.  He was proud that all of his children were also baptized and confirmed at St. Martin’s.

Keary was a graduate of Winona Senior High School, and received his degree in Civil Engineering from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.  Keary was united in marriage with Susan Mary Ward on September 16, 1972, at St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

Keary owned and operated Decorah Laboratories and Twin Bluff Laboratories, and in retirement, he enjoyed driving bus for the Minnesota City Bus Company and for Ready Line Bus Company.  He also played fiddle for many bands in northeastern Iowa and southern Minnesota.

He will be remembered for his enjoyment of working on cars, fishing, playing his fiddle around bonfires, and camping --  especially the yearly trip to Jellystone.  Keary had a deep love for Jesus, and was an avid student and researcher of the Bible and theology, even learning Greek.  His greatest joy in life was his family, and he especially cherished the time that he spent with his children and grandchildren and attending their many events.  He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Keary is lovingly survived by his wife, Sue; children: Melinda Sue (Jody) Niemeyer; Melissa Mary (Jason) Lajter; Courtney Ann (Robert) Walker; and Callie Keary (Tanner) Wangen; grandchildren: Dylan (Laura), Tiana, Tristan, Katie, Kaylee (Andrew), Robbie (Ariana), Peter, Oliver, Carter, Garrett, Lily, and Liam; siblings: Vince, Sheryl, Wes (Tammie), and Aarron (Kathy); in-laws: Jim Ward, Betsie Ward, Dan (Joanne) Ward, and Kathy (Jeff) Stier; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Gilman, Jr.; sisters: Tanya and Renay; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jim and Mary Ward, and sister-in-law:  Katie Ward.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona.  Pastor Kerry Eversole will officiate.  Keary will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow burial.

Pallbearers will be Keary’s grandsons.

Keary’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Winona Health Hospice for the excellent care he received, and for the support that they gave to our family.
