JUNE URNESS

June Urness, age 89, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living in Winona.

June was born on June 14, 1928, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Tom and Frieda (Ratz) Lewis.  She spent her younger years in Cresco, Iowa, before coming to Winona where she met her husband-to-be, Ray Urness.  June and Ray were married on November 2, 1946, in Lanesboro, MN, and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage until Ray’s death on November 1, 1997.

Besides raising her two sons and being a homemaker, June worked at Goodrich, Lakeside Produce, Miller Lubricator, and finished her career by working for 18 years at Brach’s Candy.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, playing BINGO, watching the Vikings and the Twins, and she especially enjoyed playing cards with her family.  June was a long-time member of Central Lutheran Church in Winona.

June is survived by her sons: Robert (Sue) Urness, Winona; and Jerry (Molly) Urness, Owatonna, MN; 6 grandchildren: Scott (Diana) Urness, Kari (Jason) Foltz, Katy (Mike) Ebert, Leigh (Ricky) Magana, Eric Urness, and Tim (Carrie) Urness; 12 great-grandchildren; one surviving sibling, Mary Miller, Lanesboro, MN;  a special nephew and niece: Jim (Gloria) Dotzler, and Joy (Dan) Will; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Ray, Paul, Harold, and William; and sisters: Bernetta, Ruth, and Opal.

Visitation will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Winona on Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 9 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM.  The Reverend Louise Stromberg will officiate.  June will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Winona State Football.
