Joseph J. Peplinski, age 80, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at his home.
He was born on October 10, 1937, in Winona, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Theis) Peplinski, and was united in marriage with Ruth Hogenson on April 12, 1958, in Winona. Joe honorably served his country with the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957.
He was employed for 35 years as a tool and die maker with Peerless Chain Company in Winona, and was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.
Joe was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, who also enjoyed fishing, golfing at Westfield, and he was a talented artist and painter. As an avid bowler for many years, he was proud to have been the first to get a 300 in a city-wide tournament. Joe’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he especially cherished the time that he spent with his grandchildren.
Joe is lovingly survived by his wife, Ruth, Winona; children: Peggy (George) Welshons, Winona; Joe (Theresa) Peplinski, III, Rochester, MN; Bob (Cathy) Peplinski, Bloomington, MN; and Tina (Stephen) Hagen, Winona; grandchildren: Samantha (Justin) Kenow, Andrew (Lindsey) Peplinski, Jordan Welshons, Desirae (Cory Mlenar) Welshons, Tiffany Peplinski, Amber Godfrey, Kayla Godfrey, Ariel (Tyrone) Powell, and Dulan Hagen; great-grandchildren: AaLeeah Powell, Madden Kenow, and Calia Ruth Mlenar; sisters: Elita Telles, Rita (George) Carlson, and Joan Stachowitz; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 PM on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. The Reverend Paul J. Breza will officiate. After the Mass, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors outside of the Basilica, with a luncheon following in the parish hall.
Joe will be laid to rest in a family ceremony at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.
