JOHN G. WEINBERGER

John G. Weinberger, 88, of Winona passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 with his wife, Barb, by his side.

He was born, August 20, 1927, in Winona to John A. and Regina M. (Schammel) Weinberger.  He married Barbara Ann Kauphusman on May 26, 1961 in Rochester, MN. They had two sons John R. and Robert G.

He joined the Navy shortly after his graduation from Cotter HS in 1945 and remained in the reserves until 1951.  He worked for Shell Oil Co. for 35 years as a truck driver and then plant manager until the plant was closed.

John enjoyed the outdoors and would rather be fishing, hunting or trapping then be inside during any season.  The last 28 years he enjoyed his retirement by buying and working on his farm in Cedar Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Barb; his sons: John (Claudia) of Winona, and Bob (Renee) of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren: Matthew, Anna, Cody and Colin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Father Crispan (David), a Franciscan Capuchin priest; and sister, Rita Holmes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 Noon on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.  The Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Following the Mass, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors outside of the Basilica.

John will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in a private family ceremony at a later date.

Visitation will be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 11 AM until the time of the Mass.
