Joanne M. Rompa

A Winona woman, who loved to have it her way, has left a whopper of a void as she moves on to the next world! Joanne Rompa’s heart stopped beating September 18, 2026, her body worn out by 93 years of working very hard to make sure everything was in its place, neat and tidy and as perfect as could be!

She loved acting goofy and breaking into song whenever she had an audience or if someone said something that made her think of a song. Even though her hearing diminished, she was always in tune, singing with gusto as her face would light up! This was a performance, after all!

She used to love to say “I tell it the way it is.” or at least how she thought it should be.

Her flower garden and lawn were right out of Better Homes and Garden. They were perfect and weeds knew to stay away or she would get them. She loved repurposing items to use for something else and the many antique furniture pieces she refinished decorated her home and now live on in the homes of her sons.

Joanne loved to bake and every birthday cake was custom decorated to match the interest of the person celebrating.

She married John Rompa in 1952, the first couple married in Winona’s new Cathedral. They had 3 boys, David, Steve and Kevin. Joanne was preceded in death by John and Steve and her siblings Evelyn, Eugene, Doc and Denny and is survived by her sister Bonnie and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the many family and friends, who were so kind and loving to Joanne on her journey, especially Karen and Rich Daca, Amy and Bonnie Czaplewski and Roxanne Kronebusch for the many rides given to medical appointments.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel of Benedictine - St. Anne in Winona on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM.  Fr. Russell Scepaniak will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
