Joane Sula

Joane J. Sula, age 79, of Rochester, MN, and formerly of Winona and Lewiston, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at her home in Rochester.

She was born on April 27, 1940, in Winona, to James F. and Genevieve (Shaw) Sula, and was a graduate of Winona Senior High School.  She married Eugene Steins, and they later divorced.  Joane was employed for many years in the hosiery and wig department of K-Mart in Rochester.

Joane was active with the Salvation Army Women’s Ministry in Rochester, and she loved to sing, dance, and praise the Lord.  She will be remembered for her love of playing cards, especially 10 foot Canasta, and as a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, and friend.

Joane is lovingly survived by her daughter: Debra (Terry) Stafford; grandchildren: Lydia (Gary) Kuster-Beesecker, and Madeline Dorn; great-grandchildren: Emma and Hayley Beesecker; a brother: James Sula; as well as other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Tammy Steins; sister: Jean Ali; and her former husband, Eugene Steins.

Visitation will be held from 2 PM until the funeral service at 3 PM on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.  Majors Robert and Lisa Mueller of the Rochester Salvation Army will officiate.  Joane will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
