Joan Strong

Joan M. Strong, age 88, of Winona, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Lake Winona Manor.

She was born on August 28, 1930, in Winona, to Edward and Emma (Gottschalk) Jasnoch.  Joan was united in marriage with Eugene F. Strong on November 11, 1949, at the St. Thomas Pro Cathedral in Winona, and he preceded her in death on March 19, 2015.  Following their marriage, Gene and Joan lived in Chicago for many years, where she was employed by Western Electric.  Later, they returned to Winona to raise their family and Joan also was employed by Winona Senior High School.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Joan will be remembered as a wonderful homemaker, who took great pride in taking care of her yard and flowers.  She enjoyed rides in the truck with Gene whether it was their weekly trip to La Crosse, or an evening ride to get ice-cream.   Joan also loved her Minnesota Vikings!  Joan’s family was the center of her life, and she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.

Joan is lovingly survived by her children: Dan Strong, Winona; Susan (Gene) Schueler, Winona, and their children, Heather, Gena, and Rob; Cheryl (Jim) Jick, Winona; and their children, Jason and Erica; Laurie (Paul) Jackels, Winona, and their children, Matthew and Mallory; Connie (Michael) Szczepanski, Winona, and their children, John and Jared; Scott Strong, Winona, and his daughter, Roary; Michelle (Michael) Walch, Rollingstone, MN, and their children, Mitchell, Miranda, Michael, and Mason; daughter-in-law: Rose Strong, and her children, Jaclyn, Kristin, Jessica, Samantha, Sarah, and Eugene, Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Sharon Jasnoch, Lynn Jasnoch and LaVonne Dynako; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, Eugene, and all of her siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM on Monday, August 12, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass in the church commons.  The Reverend Michael Cronin will officiate.  Joan will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joan’s grandsons.
