Joan B. Roessler, age 92, of Winona, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Sauer Health Care in Winona.
She was born on August 12, 1933, in Lincoln Township, Buffalo County, WI, to Elder and Evelyn (Hansow) Rutschow, and was a graduate of the Gilmanton High School. Joan attended UW-Eau Claire and completed her degree in education at Winona State University.
Joan was united in marriage with Donald A. Roessler on July 20, 1957, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Cream, WI, celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary this past year. Throughout her career, Joan was a dedicated elementary school teacher for the Pepin and Mondovi School Districts in Wisconsin, and the Roseville and Winona School Districts in Minnesota. She enjoyed her students and fellow teachers.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Winona.
Joan will be remembered for her enjoyment of camping, baking, card playing, collecting angels and bird watching. In retirement, Joan and Don enjoyed traveling, with some of their favorite destinations being Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska. Her greatest joy in life was her family and friends, and she especially cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her the most.
Joan is lovingly survived by her husband, Don; children: Michael (Beth) Roessler and Pamela (Dan McCarty) Roessler; grandchildren: Dustin (Mandie Breamer) Roessler and Alayna McCarty; granddaughter-in-law: Taylor Roessler; brother: Emmett Rutschow; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws: John and Vernie Roessler; and a grandson, Chad Roessler.
Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4 PM until 7 PM, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Winona on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM. Pastor Greg Schaefer will officiate. Joan will be laid to rest privately at the Alma Public Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Dustin Roessler, Larry McNish, James Mueller, Ron Speltz, Daniel Hauser, and David Hohenstein.
Joan’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Sauer Health Care for the excellent and loving care that she received last year while living there.
The family would appreciate memorials be directed to Sauer Health Care, Faith Lutheran Church, or to a favorite charity.
