James J. Holmay

James J. Holmay, age 77, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Gundersen Health System Hospital in La Crosse.

He was born on January 15, 1948, in Winona, to Edward and Mary (Cieminski) Holmay. Jim was a graduate of Cotter High School and furthered his education by earning a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College in Winona.

Jim devoted many years of his life to his career, which included working at IBM, and later with Stansfield Vending in La Crosse until his retirement.

He will be fondly remembered for his passion of fishing, woodworking, various DIY projects, as well as his love for dogs. Above all, his greatest joy came from his family, particularly the cherished moments spent with his nieces and nephews.

Jim is survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Poblocki; sister-in-law, Mary Holmay and her family; nieces: Lynda Sobotta and Carol Fauske; nephew, Robert E. (Curtis Barnhart) Poblocki; great-nephews: Jason (Michele) Sobotta and Joshua (Liz) Fauske; great-niece, Asia Fauske; three great-great-nieces; a special friend, Ann Abraham; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Doris Poblocki and Patricia Powell; and a brother, Richard Holmay.

Visitation will take place at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 8:30 AM until the funeral service at 10 AM. Deacon Justin Green will officiate. Following the service, Jim will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
