Irma W. Amundson

Irma W. Amundson, age 108 ½, of Winona, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital – St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN.

She was born on September 18, 1915, in Gilmanton, WI, to Walter and Pauline (Steinke) Brixen, and was a graduate of the Gilmanton High School.  Irma was united in marriage with Raymond L. Amundson on May 16, 1936, in Stevens Point, WI, and he preceded her in death in 1977.

Irma was employed for over 40 years with the Winona Knitting Mills prior to her retirement.  She was a member of St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church, where she was active with the quilters and helping with the Messenger newsletter assembly.

She will be remembered for her enjoyment of going fishing with Raymond, gardening, tending her flowers, and for always being on the move.  Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she always gladly gave of her time to help take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her the most.

Irma is lovingly survived by her children: Jerry (Germaine) Amundson, and Linda Lattimer; grandson: Randy (Dianne) Amundson; great-grandchildren: Candi Amundson, Ashley Amundson, and Brooke (Kaelan) Nelson; great-great-grandson: Ayden Amundson; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Jane; parents; grandson, Dale Amundson; son-in-law, Steven Lattimer; and sisters, Alice Brixen and Emma Jenson.

Visitation will be held at St. Martin’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM.  The Reverend Richard A. Moore will officiate.  Irma will be laid to rest at the Gilmanton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandson, Randy Amundson; great-granddaughters, Candi Amundson, Ashley Amundson, and Brooke Nelson; great-grandson-in-law, Kaelan Nelson; and great-great-grandson, Ayden Amundson.

A memorial is being arranged.
