Irene Pruka

Irene Bertha Pruka, age 86, of Winona, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Sugar Loaf Senior Living in Winona.

She was born on November 3, 1931, in Witoka, MN, to Frederick and Margaret Borkowski.  Irene was united in marriage with George R. Pruka on September 30, 1950, and he preceded her in death on December 5, 2003.

Irene was a member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona.  She will be remembered for her enjoyment of Sunday rides with George, her plants and flowers, and some of her favorite TV programs were WWE wrestling, Hee-Haw, and the Grand Ole Opry.  Irene worked alongside George on their farm on Garven Heights, and she was a devoted homemaker who was a loving wife, mom, and grandma.  Irene was always happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren.

Irene is lovingly survived by her children: Richard (Paula) Pruka, Linda (Joel) Blome, Brian (Cindy) Pruka, and David Pruka; grandchildren: Dennis Pruka, Danny Pruka, Diana Pruka, Jesse Janikowski, Tiffany Pruka, Casey Pruka, Josh Pruka, Ashley Dvorak, Kami Putz, Kyle Pruka,  Aaron Pruka, Amber Bork;  6 great-granddaughters, 11 great-grandsons, with one on the way; brother-in-law: Walter (Louise) Pruka; sisters-in-law: Ruth Cordes, Norma Jorde, and Helen (Myron) Bunke; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter-in-law: Linda Pruka; an infant grandson; and a sister-in-law: Agnes Oldendorf.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 766 West Wabasha Street, Winona.  The Reverend Matthew Schoell will officiate.  Irene will be laid to rest in the Witoka Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Irene’s grandsons.
