Irene C. Pozanc

Irene C. Pozanc, age 94, of Winona, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona.

She was born on August 16, 1931, in Winona, to August and Mary (Kowalewski) Dzwonkowski, Sr. Irene married John F. Pozanc, Jr., on February 3, 1951, in Winona, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2007.

Irene was employed with the Winona Knitting Mills and with WinCraft until her retirement.

She was a life-long member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Koskta, where she was active in singing with the Adult, Funeral, and Polish Choirs, and she enjoyed singing with the Fountain City Singers.

An avid bowler, Irene was inducted into the Winona Bowling Hall of Fame and was proud of rolling a high game of 299. She also enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, cooking, spending time with her family, and will be remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humor.

Irene is lovingly survived by her children: Joan Van Brunt, Susan Pozanc, Mark (Barb) Pozanc, Michael (Lisa) Pozanc, Paula (Bob) Brang, and Joseph (Debbie) Pozanc; grandchildren: William (Jovy Rockey) Van Brunt, Paul Van Brunt, Sarina (Brad) Skrukrud, Jesse (Tasha) Van Brunt, Emily (Jeff) Graves, Mark Jr. (Shala Corey) Pozanc, Malia (Patrick) Scott, Timothy (Gretchen) Pozanc, Derek (Emily Kieselhorst) Pozanc, Dustin Pozanc, Thomas Pozanc and Curtis Pozanc; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Kaleb Pozanc; Connor Corey; Paige and Parker Lorenz; Joseph Scott; Ashton and Tanner Pozanc; Skye Pozanc; Ian Pozanc; Reagan, Bo, and Everlee Skrukrud; Anya, Gregori, and Franklin Van Brunt; sister, Juanita Serwa; brother, Daniel Dzwonkowski; step-grandchildren: Emily (Jon) Millen, Victoria (David) Beech, and Christopher Plantz; several step-great-grandchildren; in-laws: Chris Whetstone, Chester Pozanc, Sr., and Barbara Pozanc; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Robert “Pozy” Pozanc; son-in-law, Dale Van Brunt; great-grandson, Peyton Lorenz; parents; siblings and their spouses: Lambert (Marge) Dzwonkowski; Ed (Helen) Dzwonkowski; Roy (Jeanette) Dzwonkowski, Lorretta (Ben) Westlund; Marion (Earl) Fort; Helen (Stan) Foster; Harold Dzwonkowski, August Dzwonkowski, Jr., and Gerald (Carol) Dzwonkowski; in-laws: Gerald Serwa, Chester Malewicki, Sarah Dzwonkowski, Harry (Alice) Pozanc, George Pozanc, Ray Pozanc, Teresa (Bernard “Bud”) Thicke, Esther (Tom) Bescup, Sharon Pozanc, Shirley (Brad) Larsen, and Lyle Whetstone.

Visitation will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 2 PM until 4 PM, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4 PM. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. The Very Reverend Patrick Arens will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Irene’s grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to a favorite charity.
