Gregory M. Lipinski

Gregory M. Lipinski, age 70, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Sugar Loaf Senior Living, with his family by his side.

Greg was born on March 14, 1953, in Winona to Francis W. and Ann E. (Jaszewski) Lipinski.  He was a graduate of Cotter High School, attended Winona State University, and he was a long-time employee of Yellow Cab in Winona. He really enjoyed the longer, out-of-town trips to many destinations in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Greg had kind of a rough life, and those that knew him, know that he battled mental health issues for most of his life.  With a lot of help, he battled through the bad times and enjoyed the goods times.  We are very proud of him for surviving all he went through. 

Greg was a great piano player, having had many years of private lessons.  He could play a wide variety of songs, but his favorites to play were Classical and Jerry Lee Lewis.  Another passion of Greg’s was Chess, which he played in tournaments and online with people from all over the world.  It was hard for him when strokes affected his cognitive function, and he lost the ability to do the things that he enjoyed.

We love you Greg, and we will miss you.  Like Crystal told you, “Go to that Jerry Lee Lewis concert now, and beat Bobby Fisher at a game of Chess.”  Fly high, big brother!

Greg is survived by his sister, Barb (Al) Kammerer, Minnesota City, MN; nieces: Crystal Smith, Winona, and Lindsay (Brian) Kammerer, Winona; nephews: Eric (Kristy) Kammerer, Lakeville, MN; and Jason (Brooke) Kammerer, Winona; great-nieces and great-nephews: Elizabeth, Ayden, Nathaniel, Haylee, Harper, and James; and bonus great-nephews: Willie and Evan; as well as numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honoring his wishes, there will be no service at this time.  A memorial gathering to celebrate his life is being planned for a later date.
