GERALD J. CIEMINSKI

Gerald J. Cieminski, age 85, of Winona, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at the Gundersen Health System Hospital in La Crosse, WI.

He was born on November 8, 1931, in Winona, to Joseph and Renelda (Maroushek) Cieminski, and was a graduate of Winona High School.

Gerald honorably served his country with the United States National Guard, and was activated and deployed with the Army to serve in Japan during the Korean Conflict.

In 1954, he married Audrey Goetzman at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. In his professional life, he learned about computers when they were a brand new technology, and went on to be a data processing manager for various businesses throughout his career, with his longest position being with Nelson Tire in Winona.  Gerald had an adventuresome heart, and after starting out in Winona, moved with his family to Minneapolis, then to California, then back to Minneapolis and to California once again, before finally retiring and returning to his hometown of Winona.  He also traveled to all 50 states during his lifetime.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Westfield Golf Club, and the American Legion.

Gerald will be remembered for his love of golfing – a lifelong devotee of the game, after retiring he played almost every summer day for 20 years with his son Jack, and also enjoyed the close friendships he formed with their other golfing partners who joined them over the years.  Gerald and his wife Audrey spent their winters in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where they owned a condo.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; son, Jack; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 brothers; and a sister.

According to his wishes, funeral services are being held privately, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
