Forrest P. Sawyer, age 96, of Winona, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020, at Sauer Health Care.

He was born on September 26, 1923, in Clear Lake, IA, to Edward and Vera Sawyer, and proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War ll.  Forry was united in marriage with Ruth M. Vondrashek on April 12, 1942, and they enjoyed over 70 years of marriage until Ruth’s passing on February 21, 2013.

He was employed as a sheet metal worker until his retirement, and he was a member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church.

Forry was the most wonderful father and grandfather, and he cherished his family above anything.

Forry is survived by his children: Michael (LaVonne) Sawyer, Robert (Marsha) Sawyer, and Rose (Michael) McGuire; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Sawyer; sisters: Beverly Dailey and Nancy Postier; as well as many caring nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Edward and Vera; brothers: Merle, Kenneth, and Tom Sawyer; and a sister: Judith Collins.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Sauer Health Care for the great care Forry received over the past four years.

Due to current health concerns and restrictions, a family service will be held at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, with the Very Reverend Mark C. McNea officiating.

Forry will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors.
