ELLA M. ALTHOFF
Ella M. Althoff, age 90, of Winona, died on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.
Ella M. Barnholtz came into this world on September 18, 1926, in Rochester, MN, being the 8th child born to John and Leona (Kardack) Barnholtz.
Ella was raised on the farm in Nicollet, MN. Upon finishing high school, Ella returned to the Winona area and lived with her sister, Leona Koehler and her family.
Ella held various jobs in the Winona area throughout the years until meeting and eventually marrying George L. Althoff on June 15, 1963, in Winona, MN. George died on December 19, 1988.
Ella is survived by her 3 stepchildren and their children:
Robert Althoff and Susan Althoff, both of Winona, and their children, Pamela McNeill, Minnetonka, MN, and Jane (Wally) Bostrom, Ramsey, MN.
David (Patricia) Althoff, Fountain City, WI, and their children, Travis (Jennifer) Althoff, Fountain City, WI, and Scott (Julia) Althoff, Winona, MN.
Carolyn (Stan) Losinski, Winona, MN, and their children; Angela (Jim) Zaborowski, Winona, MN, Brice (Stephanie) Losinski, Winona, MN, and Brett (Sarah) Losinski, New Ulm, MN.
Nine great-grandchildren; Samantha Althoff, Kendra (Tyler) Rediske, Ashley Althoff, Victoria Althoff, Sophia Althoff, Stephanie Veiseth, Makenna Veiseth, Brendan Losinski, and Sophie Losinski.
Surviving family members also include many nieces and nephews, with two nephews who truly need to be recognized for their care and compassion for Ella's well-being. One nephew that Ella basically raised as her own and truly loved with all her heart was Charles (Chuck) Koehler and his wife, Gloria Koehler, of West Monroe, Louisiana, and also another nephew, Richard (Bonnie) Barnholtz, Goodview, MN, who faithfully visited Ella to give comfort and reassurance to her as she struggled in her later years. Ella spoke of them often and loved them both dearly.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Althoff, her parents, John and Leona Barnholtz, and her 7 older siblings, Marie Kardack Wilson, John Barnholtz, Leona Barnholtz Koehler, Jeanette Barnholtz, Henry Barnholtz, Melvin Barnholtz, and Sylvester Barnholtz.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, November 21, 2016, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 766 West Wabasha Street, in Winona. The Reverend Matthew Schoell will officiate.
Ella will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday, November 21, 2016, from 10 AM until the time of the service.
