In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Barbara Waters

Elizabeth Barbara (Banicki) Waters, 98, of Winona, MN passed away peacefully Saturday, September 19, 2026, at The Preserve of Roseville.

Born on February 4, 1928, in Winona, MN, to John and Elizabeth Banicki, she was the ninth, of ten children. Elizabeth met her husband, John Clinton Waters and were married January 23, 1951, in Winona, MN. John passed away July 23, 2012.

Elizabeth graduated from Cotter High School in Winona in 1946. Through her high school years she worked at the Hot Fish shop, a job she loved and proudly talked about her entire life. She met the love of her life John Waters through her sister Lover who was married to John’s brother Warren. John and Betty raised their six children while living in Duluth, Minneapolis, Pine City and Winona, MN. Most of the day-to-day activities raising their six busy children were led by Betty as John was traveling weekly for the Federal Reserve Bank.

Elizabeth’s Catholic faith was a central part of her life. She attended and was active at The Basilica of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona where she was a Eucharist Minister to shut-ins, sang in the church choir and attended the Fall Festival every year without fail. Elizabeth also enjoyed her hours working for the Harvest House and the Polish Museum in Winona, and bingo anywhere she could find it!

She is survived by her loving children; Cynthia Knight of Burnsville, MN, Kevin (Mary) of Shoreview, MN, Robert (Erin) of North Branch, MN, Michael (Dawn) of Wagner, SD, Jason (Holly) of Winona, MN and Joanne (Rush City) wife of deceased son Steven; grandchildren: Shelby Waters, Cody (Taylor) Waters, Elissa (Mo) Pourzandvakil, Trenton (Kaela) Waters, Tom (Steph) Waters, John (Caitlin) Waters, Michael and Charlie Waters, Ryan and Grace Waters, Xavier and Dmitri Waters, and nine great grandchildren. Sisters, Dorothy Banicki (100) of Winona, MN and Thersea Dyer (95) of Pacifica, Ca.

She is preceded in death by husband John, son Steven, grandchild Christoper, four brothers; Raymond, Walter “Bud”, Norman and Frank; and three sisters, Marcella, Antonette “Dolly” and Josephine “Lover”.

Visitation will be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Winona on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. The Very Reverend Patrick Arens will officiate. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona. Following the interment, a luncheon and reception will be held in the Community Room of the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona.
