Doris R. Schoenike, age 91, of Winona, entered her eternal home in heaven on Sunday, January 17, 2021, while in the care of Lake Winona Manor.
She was born November 21, 1929, in Greenleaf, WI, to Rev. Ernst and Erna (Hoyer) Schoenike. The family lived in Watertown, WI, and Mayville, WI, before moving to Winona in 1946. Doris graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1948.
She was employed as a secretary with the Beatty law office in Winona, and later took a position as an administrative assistant at the Winona Senior High School, and then with the Winona Junior High School, until her retirement.
Doris was a long-time faithful member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona, where she sang in the choir for many years and assisted in the church office. Additionally, she volunteered with Lutheran Girl Pioneers and was a part of the Outreach and Visitor Committee.
She was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Winona Chiefs baseball team, and she also enjoyed following local college and high school sports.
Doris will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her willingness to help anyone in need, and her strong Christian faith. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Doris is survived by her two sisters: Irma (Armin) Prigge of rural Winona; and Betty (Herb) Mueller of Rochester; nephews: Todd (Jody) Mueller, Douglas Prigge, Joel (Kris) Mueller, and Allen (Julie) Mueller; her loving grand-nephews and grand-nieces include: Alyssa (Tyler), Jonah (Dollcie), Aaron, Brandon, Lindsey, Kaylee, Rachel, and Samuel; and grand-grand-niece: Eleanor. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers: Roland and Edgar Schoenike.
A public visitation, without the family present, will be held from 4 PM until 6 PM on Friday, January 22, 2021, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 East Sarnia St., in Winona. A family service will be held at St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winona, with the Reverend Matthew Schoell and the Reverend Winfried Schroeder officiating. Doris will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
